Producers Planned Since 2007 to End Paying Residuals
From July 12, 2007 NYT:
...several of Hollywood’s highest-ranking executives called for the end of the entertainment industry’s decades-old system of paying so-called residuals for the reuse of movie and television programs after their initial showings.
The executives stopped short of saying they would demand an immediate end to residuals... But they were emphatic in calling for the dismantling of a system under which specific payments are made when movies and programs are put on DVD, shown abroad or otherwise resold
(emphasis added, from The New York Times). A video about ending residuals points out that all TV will be "New Media" and therefore not pay residuals under the AMPTP's current offer.

Create Projects Yourself
To all the actors and writers out there, you have to get over the idea that someone else is going to promote you. This is an old school Hollywood relic of an idea that has to go. It's time to find your own audience and connect with them directly.
You are the only one who owns your brand and you are the only one who can make real connections with it. This isn't an easy idea to fully embrace. We are ingrained with the arcane and stupid idea that we just need to be discovered or seen by the right people and our careers will suddenly be awakened. Get that load of crap out of your heads right now

Strike Won't Stop Many Productions
In the event of a TV/Theatrical strike, work done under other SAG contracts would continue to be governed by those contracts, not the TV/Theatrical contracts. That means jobs in commercials, basic cable, video games and industrials would continue during a TV/Theatrical strike. Also, jobs would continue on more than 800 independent movie projects by producers not associated with AMPTP companies, and on more than 800 independent new media projects under SAG's new media agreement

Motivation and Creativity
I have a friend who referred to acting to please others or letting your want be to get the role (get a good review, etc.) as "extrinsic" motivation. Twyla Tharp talks about motivation and creativity in a video online and has a similar perspective.

SAG Awards Nominations Announced
Nominations for the 15th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards for outstanding performances in 2008 in five film and eight primetime television categories and for the SAG honors for film and television stunt ensembles were announced this morning in Los Angeles at the Pacific Design Center's Silver Screen Theater in West Hollywood

Warner Movies on Mobile TV in Korea
Warner Bros. is to become the first Hollywood studio to see its movies distributed directly to mobile TV in Korea.
Earlier this month, Warner closed its Korean home video business unit due to falling revenues from the country's collapsing DVD market
