SAG-AFTRA Considering Music Video Do Not Work Order
On May 19-20, the SAG-AFTRA National Board will consider a unanimous recommendation by the Executive Committee to implement a Do Not Work notice against music video productions.
Once implemented, SAG-AFTRA members may not accept employment as performers in any music video not produced under a SAG-AFTRA contract. A Do Not Work order for music videos is a result of the major record labels refusing to agree to a contract that meets the critical needs of music video performers
(from SAG-AFTRA).

Optics
Some Friday evening musings. On camera actors ought to become friends with the lens because it is the only thing that captures our performance and can allow people to see it. Actors can take comfort from the machines because they will not judge, they will except anything you do in front of them.
But it may be cold comfort because the machines will never feel one way or the other about it. It is only once people watch what the optics have brought to a digital chip, and then through a digital system and through a screen to people that it will actually have the ability to touch someone.
It is through the glass that the camera department nimbly fawns over and the diaphragms and ribbons of the sound department's microphones that our work begins its trip to people's hearts and minds.

Being Remarkable
The decision to be remarkable is not one to be taken lightly. It means you can't settle for anything less, and that's a big promise to make to yourself and others.
But man - what a payoff

Projects as Concept Cars
A concept car is something for which the user experience has been fully fleshed out, but the supporting technical detailing may or may not be there, and certainly all the layers that make up a whole product - sales, marketing, support, service - are nonexistent
(from metacool). Many projects are being put together without sales, marketing, support, service, and are falling short of their goals (business goals usually) because of it. I think it is worth considering whether or not a project is a fully fledged show, or just a concept project, a concept car. Nothing wrong with either, but worth knowing which you are involving yourself and your business in.
The whole point of having a strong point of view is to ship something remarkable. And the reason we're here is to ship. If you do have that strong point of view, believe in it first, and commit yourself to shipping. Then - and only then - show off your concept car.
