Optics

Some Friday evening musings. On camera actors ought to become friends with the lens because it is the only thing that captures our performance and can allow people to see it. Actors can take comfort from the machines because they will not judge, they will except anything you do in front of them.

But it may be cold comfort because the machines will never feel one way or the other about it. It is only once people watch what the optics have brought to a digital chip, and then through a digital system and through a screen to people that it will actually have the ability to touch someone.

It is through the glass that the camera department nimbly fawns over and the diaphragms and ribbons of the sound department's microphones that our work begins its trip to people's hearts and minds.

comments: It wouldn't hurt to take some time and figure out which focal length flatters you. Not everyone looks the same with the same lenses. When it's time for your close up, don't you want to look your best? Do some test shots with good lenses and evaluate the outcome. You'll be surprised at how different you can look.
